Why is it called Church of All Nations?
Six monolithic columns support 12 cupolas, the insides of which are decorated with mosaic tiles depicting the national emblems of the donor communities. This decoration gave rise to the popular name, “Church of All Nations”. The name Gethsemane is a Greek form of the Hebrew gat shemanim ([olive] oil press).

What is the Rock of Agony?
The Church of All Nations officially named the Basilica of the Agony, is located at the foot of the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem next to the Garden of Gethsemane. In front of the high altar is a flat outcrop of rock which a long christian tradition identifies as the rock of agony where Jesus prayed.
